Contemplating: Work-Life Balance - Myth or Reality?
Questions can be so powerful, and what we have observed in brafe.space is that they can be even more powerful when given ample space to go unanswered - oftentimes evolving into new, deeper, questions which call on different aspects of the brain to explore.
Each of our brafe Tuesdays begins with a question being posed to the participants, with the format emphasising an open exploration of what those questions bring up in us when we are given space and encouraged to be in a state of ‘not knowing’ the answers. So this brafe Tuesday, I paid particular attention to the questions we were asking. Not to answer them or even understand them, but to simply acknowledge the asking and creativity which that implies.
Here, we wanted to give an unconventional summary of our experience together by sharing some of these questions with you, and inviting you to ponder them with us with the same sense of curiosity and openness which we embraced during our time together.
Question posed:
Work life balance: is it a myth or reality?
Questions raised:
What is work-life balance? What is work relative to life and what is life relative to work? How would a totally new definition of work and living impact our evolution? What would be a healthy and optimally healing distinction between the two, if any? How would it be possible to achieve a healthy, optimal balance between work and life as they relate to one another? What kind of introspective capacity must one have to achieve a healthy, optimal balance between work and life as they relate to one another on the individual level? What kind of empathetic capacity must a collective have in order to achieve a healthy, optimal balance between work and life as they relate to one another on the level of community? What role does an open heart and our connection to one another play in achieving a healthy, optimal balance between work and life as they relate to one another on the individual and communal levels?
We are so grateful to those who join us on the brafe Tuesdays, and especially to those who are vulnerable enough to share their ‘not knowing’ with us so that we can bring these questions into a communal space.
